Volunteer Profiles

Peter Corless

Peter Corless exemplifies the work of ABV, having undertaken eight assignments over the last four years through both ABV’s Australian Government-funded and Partnerships Programs.

Peter’s early working background was in internal and external auditing. He was responsible for audits ranging from the Sydney Opera House to the Thursday Island Power station. Peter’s later career was as a consultant in Finance, Administration and Management in Catholic Education. Peter also taught accounting and computer subjects at Cairns TAFE and took an active role in Rugby League through coaching and administration.

After retiring in 2009, Peter was fortunate to discover ABV and the satisfaction and enjoyment of volunteering. He has so far completed assignments in Papua New Guinea, Cambodia, East Timor, Solomon Islands and Fiji in a variety of positions including as a Financial Management Trainer, Internal Audit Advisor and MYOB Trainer. Peter’s training has ensured the organisations he has worked with received significant funding grants and have demonstrated their ability to become autonomous and transparent.  Through his quiet dedication, patience and hard work, these organisations are able to operate sustainably and independently due to the systems and procedures Peter has now put in place. The sharing of knowledge and cultures and the strong friendships Peter has gained have made volunteering with ABV a highlight of his working career.
