On 16 September it is 40 years since Papua New Guinea became independent from Australia.

Australian Business Volunteers have been working in Papua New Guinea for the great majority of PNG’s independence, and hundreds of our volunteers will have fond memories of their time spent in this beautiful country.

Our very first volunteer was placed with the Arawa Town Authority on Bougainville on 14 July 1982, and ever since PNG has been a key country of focus.

We hope to continue working with the people of PNG to alleviate poverty by assisting in the creation of a vibrant and inclusive private sector for many decades to come.

Happy Independence Day Papua New Guinea!
