Earlier this week ABV volunteers Bea Duffield and Sharon Valentine began facilitating a special Your Enterprise Scheme (YES) program for a group of women in Port Moresby.

“YES” is ABV’s practical month long program designed to raise the business skill levels of the owners of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises. YES couples intensive management training with one-on-one mentoring by Australian business experts.

Gender inequality is one of the big development issues facing Papua New Guinea. PNG is ranked 157 out of 187 countries in the 2014 UNDP Gender Inequality Index. In the words of UNWomen ‘investing in women’s economic empowerment sets a direct path towards gender equality, poverty eradication and inclusive economic growth.’ We are sure that providing additional business skills and mentoring to these dynamic women will have a big impact.

Financial or in-kind support for this YES has been provided by organisations including Digicel, Virgin Australia, Pacific Islands Trade & Invest, and individuals including many ABV members.

As the photo shows everyone is excited to be involved in the YES – in and email to ABV Bea wrote “…first day has been Fabulous. Participants, venue and everything are outstanding.”

ABV would like to thank everyone for their support for this great program.
