Papua New Guinea

Population: 5,670,544
GDP per capita: $704.96
Capital: Port Moresby

PNG is at a particularly challenging time in its development. The years since independence in 1975 have not delivered on the aspirations of many Papua New Guineans. While the economic outlook has shown positive signs in recent years, there is no doubt that living standards in PNG for the majority of people have declined rather than increased. PNG is also one of the few countries that are making negative progress towards MDG targets, particularly in areas such as child mortality and maternal health.

Each assignment delivered in PNG addresses one or more of the following objectives:

1. Increasing workplace skills capacity.

2. Facilitating entrepreneurial activities.

3. Actioning issues of critical concern to Papua New Guineans.
