Indonesia faces a significant challenge to alleviate poverty, with 49 percent of the population still living on US$2 per day or less. Economic growth, skill development and job creation are vital needs. In terms of human development indicators, Indonesia lags a long way behind comparable regional countries. Lack of access by the poor to quality basic services, such as education and health, is a major concern, as are the unemployment rate, which remains over 9 per cent, and a much higher rate of under employment.

Each assignment delivered in Indonesia addresses one or more of the following objectives:

1. Increasing workplace skills capacity.

2. Supporting improved service delivery.

3. Improving governance capability.
