ABV recently identified the need for a training program that provides the tools needed to turn an idea for a new business into reality. Therefore, the objective of the YES Start Up course is to give people the best possible chance of creating a sustainable business.
YES Start Up consists of a five one day workshops conducted over a four week period. One-on-one coaching sessions are conducted between workshops to provide participants with guidance on goal setting and strategies to consider for their business before they return to the next workshop.
Two experienced ABV volunteers facilitate each YES Start Up course. Local guests are also invited to take part (e.g. bank managers to provide information about access to credit and local successful business people to talk about their experiences).
At the completion of the course, participants will have gained a basic understanding of business planning, financial and human resource management, as well as marketing. Participants will also know how to conduct a feasibility study, source starting capital, business structure, and legal obligations, including registration and taxation. In most cases participants will have successfully started their first business or are well on their way to doing so.
