Volunteers are expected to have established expertise and experience in their particular fields, a willingness to share this knowledge and experience, and an ability to train others. Cultural sensitivity, patience, tolerance and open-mindedness are required. A sense of humour and a sense of adventure are both essential!

As a general rule, ABV Volunteers have a minimum of 5 years professional experience in their field. It is important to note that ABV also does not provide work experience for inexperienced Volunteers - our Volunteers are expected to be experts in their fields already. Recent graduates who do not yet have at least 5 years professional experience should consider applying to other agencies targeted towards younger Volunteers.
